What is Exceptional Talent?
It is not a separate visa: Exceptional Talent sits inside the same Global Talent route, uses the same Digital Technology criteria, and is assessed by the same endorsing body, Tech Nation. Its companion, Exceptional Promise, is for potential leaders - GOV.UK frames the split as applying "as a leader" versus "as a potential leader". Tech Nation decides the tier from your evidence: you indicate the one you are applying for, but assessors can endorse you at the other, so the tier is really an evidence question.
What does Exceptional Talent require?
Exceptional Talent requires evidence that you are already an established leader - recognition that sits above your own employer and is visible to the wider industry. The bar is the same as for Exceptional Promise: the mandatory criterion plus at least two of the four optional criteria, in up to 10 documents of up to three sides of A4 each, plus a CV and 3 recommendation letters outside that count. What raises evidence to the Talent level is seniority and external reach - leadership of significant products or teams, and recognition beyond your current company. There is no fixed years-of-experience cut-off in the Immigration Rules; the weight of your recognition counts, not a number of years. See Exceptional Talent vs Exceptional Promise.
What are the common mistakes with Exceptional Talent?
The most common mistake is claiming the Talent tier while the evidence only shows recognition inside the applicant's own employer; a senior title and internal praise tend to read as Promise-level, because assessors look for impact the wider industry can see. Other recurring patterns reported by applicants and advisers: team achievements stated without individual attribution ("we shipped" is weaker than "I led"), and referees not senior enough to lend a leader-tier claim credibility.
How does Exceptional Talent fit the wider application?
The tier is decided at Stage 1, the Tech Nation endorsement; Stage 2 is the visa application to the Home Office. It does not change the government fees (£561 endorsement plus £205 visa, £766 in total, plus the Immigration Health Surcharge), but it does change how quickly you can settle: three years of continuous residence, against five years for Exceptional Promise. That is why the tier should not be over-claimed. See settlement after 3 years.

How does the £99 assessment help?
The £99 Fit Assessment tells you, in writing, whether your evidence supports an Exceptional Talent claim or reads as Exceptional Promise. It scores your profile against the mandatory and optional criteria, recommends the tier the evidence supports, and offers a £199 option with a one-hour phone call to discuss your case, with the Chosen assessment fee refunded in full if you engage Endorsa for a document-preparation package. Our End-to-End Writing (£4,500) includes one free reattempt support.

The route and criteria are the same; the difference is career stage and settlement timing. Exceptional Talent is for established leaders (settlement after 3 years); Exceptional Promise is for potential leaders (settlement after 5 years). Tech Nation decides which tier the evidence supports.
You indicate the tier you are applying for, but Tech Nation makes the final decision on your evidence, and can endorse you at a different tier from the one you requested. Your evidence must match the leadership level you claim.
No. There is no fixed years-of-experience cut-off in the Immigration Rules for either tier. The distinction is whether your evidence shows you are an established leader or an emerging one, not a specific number of years.
